一朝で読めるようになる
賢い人なら一朝で、普通の人でも十日あればハングルを覚えられる。世宗大王自身が掲げた約束です。
「いつ、誰が作ったか」が記録された唯一の文字
ほとんどの文字の起源は神話の中にありますが、ハングルは1443年に世宗大王が作ったという事実が実録にはっきりと記録されています。
音の形がそのまま文字になる
ㄱは舌の根っこの形、ㅁは唇の形、ㅅは歯の形。英語の「K」は口の形と関係ありませんが、ハングルの子音はすべて口の中の解剖図なのです。
世宗大王の約束、御製序文
一文字＝一音節。レゴのように組み立てる
英語は音を横一列に並べます(s-t-r-e-e-t)。ハングルは子音＋母音＋パッチムを「一つの正方形」に組み立てます。音がそのまま正方形の中のレゴブロックになるのです。だからこそ文字がこんなにも整然として美しいのです。
6つの文字が一列に並ぶだけ。音がいくつあるか頭の中で数える必要があります。
거리(通り)＝「거」＋「리」、2つの正方形。音ひとつにつき、マスひとつ。
